Bata offers reward for shoes
Jan. 27, 2006. 01:00 AM
HILDA HOY
STAFF REPORTER
Police announced a $25,000 award yesterday for the safe return of stolen artifacts from the Bata Shoe Museum, swiped during open hours this past Sunday. The money is being offered by museum founder Sonja Bata, who has been "devastated" by the theft of the artifacts — worth a combined total of $216,000 — from her expansive personal collection, Toronto police Det. Leslie Dunkley told reporters at a press conference.
Museum director Emanuele Lepri called the three items "important assets" whose loss is a "great damage to the museum but also to the community."
The most valuable item in the thieves' booty, a $160,000 pair of jewel-encrusted shoes worn by a 19th-century Indian prince, was reported stolen on Sunday evening. The next day, staff discovered two additional items had been pilfered: a gold anklet, set with diamonds, rubies and emeralds, valued at $45,000, and a gold, diamond and ruby toe ring, worth $11,000.
Dunkley refused to comment on security issues at the downtown museum. Security has been beefed up in the wake of the incident. Dunkley said police are pursuing several leads and that the heist is believed to be "a planned theft and delivery." The antiques have little or no street value and would likely appeal to a specialized market, police said.
This is not the first time the museum has been robbed. Five years ago, a pair of sneakers went missing and was never found, a spokesperson said.

Merry Xmas!

As per usual, chaos around the house.
No Springer moments.
Just lots of people in a small area.

The men of course stayed home to tend to the house, while the ladies headed off to church.
I almost had a panic attack. Squished in between my family. And in an effort to deep breathe to calm myself down, I almost suffocated on clouds on incense.

We spent last night at AC's house. Where I learned that I am desperatly allergic to bunnies.
The great drama was that Mamma was no where to be found. She lives in an assisted living facility down the street.
We figured that she had told people that her family did not care about her, and some family adopted her for the evening so that she would not be alone. But no one really knew where she was. Anyway, she was found by the end of the night, but could not remember who she had been with. Poor people trying to do good, and ended up stealing her away from us for the night.

Off to AA's for the afternoon. Wanted to snowmobile and such, but there is thank god no snow.

Girls night out of Friday yielded some excitement. Will leave you hanging until tommorow.

Ok.
So tonight is girls night out.
Lock up your children.

However, I am loving my horroscope.

This would be the moment to say yes, KATHRYN. Say yes to your destiny. You are a little frustrated because things have not been moving forward as you want. But now that opportunities are coming your way, you find yourself holding things up. Come, come, KATHRYN. You are just afraid, that's all. But rather than let your fear overtake you, transform its energy to work to your advantage.

Wow.
Can't wait to see what happens

My horroscope....
interesting

Today's aspects can be interpreted in several ways, KATHRYN. The planetary configurations correspond to a search for space, whether it be a physical or an intellectual space. You may be asking yourself philosophical questions, or perhaps you're thinking of taking a long trip. What will you decide to do? Will you read Kant or plan a trip to China?

I think a trip to China might be the order of the day.

Waiting to hear from you.

Ok. Apparantly there is a little game that my sister and I did not play when we were younger.
I was telling R about my little situation and he said that he would do it on purpose when he was younger.
So there I was. Just lighting two nordic ice tea lights. I had my feet crossed. I lit the match and lit the two tea lights.
A moment later, I thought that my feet were feeling a little warmer. And oh, what was that bright light coming from my feet.
That would be flames. My socks were on fire!!!
Apparantly along with the match and the tea lights, I lit my feet.
Shocked I started flapping my feet like I was running. And then thought that I should take just take my socks off.
I burnt my socks.

Spent yesterday looking for a saree. Sue is getting married in July and we wanted to choose the dresses. I chose a pink sareee with really pronounced silver bling. Now I love bling. And I was in my element. It was so much fun. And it was awesome that we all got to choose the color that we wanted. Sue wants us to each have a different color. I was thinking summer when I chose the pink. And I get to wear all kinds of bling jewlery. I loved all the fabric as well.

Also payed a vist to L and D and their lovely new home. It is gorgeous. Poor things, they were hosting this massive open house last night and both were taking turns worshipping the porcelain god. Poor things. I was terrified that they had food poisining.

Any party at their place is complete with MANY children. A single girls nightmare!!!
Honestly, I prefer to hang with the little ones!!!

Busy week coming up as we are in classes until the end of the week. And then we are off on break. 5 more days.

I can do it.

Ahhhh.
I am alive.
Knowing that my sis has been unable to see her page as well as mine, I fell off the wagon of blogging that is.
Know that she is able to see, I thought that I should try and make that effort to post again.

Christmas is so close I can't believe it. Thank god I have been organized and got all of my shopping done ahead of time. I'm not sure how people leave everything to the last minute. I could just not cope.

My favorite is people who follow me through the parking lot looking to take my parking spot. Are you parked close as they follow me up and down the rows. I try to keep my head down so that I don't make eye contact. Maddness.

There might be a little boy interest in my life. Too soon to say. But he is very nice. I might just keep you posted.

This will be the first year that Sarah won't be home for xmas, as she will be coming at the beginging of Jan as we are all heading to BC for the first grandson's wedding.

Unless we beat him to the altar..... hmmmmm

just thinking of my mum tonight.
how when we were little, if we managed to keep the lid on the tooth paste for the entire month she would take my sister and I to McDonalds. She would buy us a hamburger and split it.
I love my Mum.

Ahh Daylight savings time.
Twice a year.
Spring forward, fall back.
And yes it was last week.
And yes, I have just figured out how to change the time on my cell phone.
Yes it took me all this time to figure out.

Last week we laughed at C because she spent half an hour trying to figure out how to change hers. Only to have someone point out to her that her phone had already done it for her automatically.

the ladies at a wedding earlier this year. Posted by Picasa
You wouldnt believe what woke me in the middle of the night.
After spending the last part of the day worshipping the porcelain bowl. Thank God a less than 24 hour bug... I doze off to sleep for a couple of hours..... and am awoken (remember that it is November) by Thunder and Lightning and a huge downpour of rain. The strangest thing in November. All I have to say is thank goodness it was not snow. I am not ready for that. Strange though that it is 17 degrees today.

So I have just returned from a two day seminar on Non Violent Crisis Intervention.
Basically a tool to use to maintain control when a student transitions from anger to violence.
I was just thinking that it would be so funny if today I had to use some of the techniques today.

This is my horroscope for today.
Crazy.

Be on your toes today, KATHRYN, and expect the unexpected. People may be acting out in rash, outlandish ways, so just go with the flow. As usual, you have a tremendous ability to roll with the punches and still come out unscathed. Just take care that someone else is not grabbing hold of the reins. Stay easy-going and laid back while maintaining control and responsibility of your actions

The world works in mysterious ways.

I wish that I could say that I have been so busy that I have not had time to writer.
But that is not really true. As usual, things are quite normal. School, Gym, home.
I am just lazy. Lets not tell any lies.
I have been on vacation from the airline for the last couple weeks, and have just had my leave of absence approved from November to March 31st.
This is good news as I have little interest in busting my arse for the next 5 months. I have a couple of flights remaining.
Sarah has found herself back in London for the next little while. She was offered a contract that will make her financially sound for a little while. Even though it was hard for her to go back to London it is the best financial decision. I need to do what she does. The money is ridiculous.
I think that I might try to get over to London to spend the weekend with her in November once I am on a leave. I do have a flight there next week, but it is a disaster as
I go through Dublin and arrive late in the afternoon into London. Have tried to change my flight to another one (fingers crossed)
Congratulations to Tony, Simone, and Rogan on the arrival of their new little boy Tieg. He arrived yesterday and all are settling at home.
It is amazing that you can give birth and be home the same day. The wonders!!!
Was talking to a girl from work and she has planted the idea of Thailand in December. Hmmmm.
